Welcome to Clark Street Children's Centre

With just four rooms and 65 places, Clark Street is one of the smallest centres in our municipality - and that’s exactly its charm. Children are grouped into our Octopus Room for 0-2 years, Penguin Room for 2-3 years and Dolphin Room for 3-5 years. Our long-serving educators know every family, and our large outdoor space gives children room to climb, dig, run and grow, every day.

As a City of Port Phillip centre, Clark Street is run for the community - not for profit. Every dollar goes back into quality education, nutritious food and the people who care for your child.

Book a tour of our centre

Clark Street Children’s Centre offers safe and affordable childcare which exceeds national quality standards. Book a tour to see if we’re the right centre for your child. Tours take around 30 minutes, and our friendly team will happily answer every question.

Quality rating

Clark Street is rated as Exceeding the National Quality Standard by the Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA). It means independent assessors found our educational program, our relationships with children and families, and our leadership go above and beyond what the National Quality Standard requires.

Our kindergarten program

Play, learn and grow

Children learn best through play, and our program is built around children’s interests, strengths and stage of development. In a centre this size, our educators genuinely know every child and plan for each of them individually.

Wellbeing and diversity

Children’s wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do. Through play, learning and exploration, our educators support social and emotional development. We celebrate the cultures, languages and traditions of every family in our Port Melbourne community.

Outdoor exploration

Our large outdoor space is the heart of the centre: room to run, climb, garden and explore in every season. Regular community excursions enrich children's learning experiences and foster a strong sense of belonging and connection to their local area.

Quality care that’s genuinely affordable

Our full daily fee is $168.50 and for most families the real cost is significantly lower:

  • Child Care Subsidy (CCS): Eligible families are able to claim the Government Child Care Subsidy at our centre. It is paid directly to Clark Street to reduce the fees you pay. Families who meet the Services Australia requirements may be eligible for this subsidy.
  • Free Kinder in a long day care setting: Free Kinder provides a fee offset of up to $2,101 per eligible child per year. The kindergarten program is delivered by a qualified Early Childhood Teacher for 5 hours per day and is integrated within a full day of care.
  • This fee offset is applied in addition to your Child Care Subsidy (CCS), helping to maximise your overall savings and reduce your out-of-pocket childcare costs.
  • All meals included: Morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea are freshly prepared and included in your fee - one less thing to pack, and one less thing to pay for.

Because we’re Council-owned and not-for-profit, our fees reflect the cost of quality care - nothing more.

Our educators

Your child is cared for by a stable team of qualified early childhood professionals. As Council employees, our educators enjoy secure, supported careers - which means familiar faces at drop-off, year after year, and relationships with your child that genuinely deepen over time.

Fresh, healthy food every day

Our cook prepares nutritious morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea daily. Our meals expose children to a broad range of flavours, textures, ingredients and cultures while supporting healthy growth, development and wellbeing. All dietary requirements, allergies and food intolerances are carefully catered for, ensuring every child can safely enjoy mealtimes. Our menus are assessed by the Victorian Government's Healthy Eating Advisory Service (HEAS), displayed weekly at the centre, and family feedback is always welcome. These initiatives form part of our commitment to children's health and wellbeing through the Achievement Program.
